New York verb. To cut off someone who is on a mission. Sentence: After being New Yorked too many times, Ben smoothly cut off the next businessman in his path.
We were still kinda clueless about what we wanted to spend our time doing so we tried to figure out more about Broadway. Our awesome concierge told us about ‘Student Rush’ tickets for college students with ID’s that were much cheaper for starving students paying an arm and a leg for school. The normal price for the Lion King was around $180 (each) so we figured we would give it a try. I had my OSU ID so Ben and I decided to try our hand as conartists. Ben’s school ID didn’t work and they usually only let one person get two tickets at most, but lucky for us the boss was there and we didn’t miss a beat as he asked about our two friends that were out getting food (also from OSU) and I was able to score us FOUR front row mezzanine seats for Mary Poppins at only $35 a piece (temporary natural high)! On our way to Broadway we also met Elmo and I would’ve felt like a horrible person if I hadn’t gotten my picture with him. Then we took the metro to the tip of Manhattan to Battery Park and caught a glimpse of Lady Liberty. We meandered back toward our hotel for a few sticky, sweaty hours. We walked down Wall Street, saw the New York Stock Exchange, and took our picture with a statue of George Washington, saw Ground Zero and the new museum and the half completed World Trade Center. We kept walking and strolled halfway along the Brooklyn Bridge, died, and then kept on walking to Grand Central Station, which was pretty close to our hotel. We quickly changed and took heavenly showers for the people sitting next to us at Mary Poppins. It was right off of Times Square and the theater was so fancy I was so happy our (very) minor heist had gone off without a hitch. We had an amazing view of the stage and the whole theater was beautifully carved and painted with vines and peacocks and flowers. They had those cute little box seats that looked like they had just come out of the Midsummer Night’s Dream and the orchestra under the stage. The musical was magical! The stage was sooooo complex and the house came apart and slid backward and forward, the roof flew off, and it was incredible. I couldn’t figure out how she took things out of her bag, because we could see under the table it was on…at the end Mary Poppins flew over the crowd! It was the best and I would totally recommend it! It ended at about midnight and we were deciding about dinner. I must’ve had my thinking face on, cause we walked by this guy and he told me to put a smile on my pretty face…needless to say it happened J. We decided on this BBQ place that look normal on the outside, but actually had both an escalator and elevator, it was HUGE! They had this really great food and one waiter could fit around 20 wine glasses on his arm! We got home at around 1:30 and we found out that the next day Broadway was going dark for Irene. LUCKY! Also, it’s fun to play slug bug with Limos…two hits for stretch Hummers!
