Well…Everything was shutdown in prep for Hurricane Irene. Dad went and got some umbrellas, but they were already sold out of donuts. People sure know their priorities here. It was still nice (just rainy) out for most of the day so we walked around the Upper East Side and spent most of our time wandering around more of Central Park, which if I failed to mention it before is HUGE. Most of the stores were closed and had taped windows and sandbags at the bottom of the doors. Churches were closed and most stores had signs like ‘Closed for Irene/Hurricane/Crappy Weather/Wimps.’ We finally found this cute little Thai restaurant and had some awesome sushi and Bubba tea. We kept on walking and just entered Central Park when Mom wanted to get some band-aids so we left and just as we walked out some police put little gates across the entrance with a closed sign! But when in New York do as the New Yorkers do, right? So we went and got band-aids and then spent the rest of the day in the banned Central Park. There was a pretty cool underground tunnel pavilion chapel thing that was beautiful and had better acoustics than the bathroom! There was a little group of people singing and I could hear it from a ways away and they sounded amazing! My camera didn’t do them justice at all, but I tried. We also stopped by Cleopatra’s Needle at it was really hard to get a good picture, because the rain and wind were starting pick up! There was also a cool guy playing the violin under a poetic bridge in the downpour. We finally decided we might as well head back to the hotel, before we were in 90 mph breezes and flew away like Mary Poppins.
